The film years
Work I have directed, produced, shot or edited.
For twenty years I have been fascinated with new formats of storytelling: the ones that emerge from each quantum leap in media production and distribution. It led me to short-format documentaries and new methodologies for producing and distributing them.
I also advise on communication strategy and develop tailored content, often with in-the-field training.
My latest online collective documentary project The Prism explores the human side of the economic crisis in Greece and has won various awards. Krisis, the feature film connected to The Prism was selected to over 30 film festivals and broadcast in 8 countries, and can be downloaded on iTunes.
Other distinctions, most notably an Emmy, an honoree selection at the Webby Awards, and a finalist slot in the Picture of the Year Awards.
I am also a fund manager of Timon Capital, an early stage VC fund backing tech companies in Africa.
An angel investor for over fifteen years, I began deploying capital in Africa in the hope that VC could help unlock value on the continent.
I am based out of NYC, but am on the road quite a bit.
The circuit
The second act begins where the first one paused. Autumn 2002, an East Village walk-up, just back from a year filming in Latin America.
Then a master’s thesis at The New School arguing that the West traded meaning for utility and must build new rites of passage. Years of travel through South America and India, camera in hand. In 2025–26 he taught himself to build software with AI — and built the oracle he had intuited in 2002.

Epopteia

Epopteia — Greek for “the highest vision,” the final stage of initiation at Eleusis — is a non-profit research initiative into the kykeon, the secret sacred drink at the center of the Eleusinian Mysteries. Niko is a funder and organizer.
In February 2026, the founding study was published in Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio), led by an international team at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. It provides experimental evidence that priestesses of Eleusis held the technological knowledge to turn a toxic ergot fungus into a psychedelic: treating ergot-infected grain with an alkaline solution converts toxic ergopeptides into psychoactive lysergic-acid amides, while the toxins fall away.

The chemistry is proven; the biology is next. The follow-on program — a first-of-its-kind preclinical study of how the preparation acts on the living brain — is designed and awaiting funding.

TWENTY-THREE YEARS IN THE WRITING
The reconciliation was always sitting there in the positions. The wall was never the problem. We were — so build the circuit that gets us across.
Every act wrote a clause: the films that made a country hear itself, the festival that gathered two tribes into one, the checks that backed founders before anyone else believed them, and now the oracle that sits enemies at the same table.
The circuit stays open — close the loop.
